Re: A Boat I'd Like to Build

I tried to draw a flat-bottomed, triple-knuckled, stem dinghy, but failed miserably. I just couldn't push lines around on a drafting table to make a boat worth building. So if I want to build that boat, I'm going to have to buy plans from Stanley Small Craft, which I wouldn't mind doing. They're cheap, GBP15-30, depending on whether the electronic or A3 paper versions are bought, and his construction notes are thoughtful.

I need another small, flat-bottomed dinghy like I need more leaves on the ground at this time of year. But I love small boats. For me, they are "right-sized" and not more of a project than I have hours or skills to complete.  Also, for reasons I don't understand, no one sells a decent, affordable, light-weight, small dinghy. For sure, one could pay $900 for a Walker Bay 8 --which does qualify as 'decent', but hardly 'light-weight'-- and $1,300 for an ugly, heavy Spring Creek pram.  But there's nothing on the market, AFAIK, that would come in at under 50 pounds and that could be bought (ready for painting) for a price equivalent to what is charged for assembly-line furniture of the sort IKEA sells.
